“Goodbye” to FTM in Print

Since 2002, Family Therapy Magazine has been hitting mailboxes six times a year, all over the globe, delivering clinical content, Association updates, and other news related to behavioral health happenings.

For those who have been around for a while, you may recall that first issue of FTM in January 2002—Hope & Healing—coming right after a point in U.S. history when many felt shattered and lost. AAMFT staff had to quickly remake the entire first issue to address such topics as terrorism and traumatic stress, ambiguous loss, and making sense of September 11. And now, 20 years later, at the end of the print run, we find ourselves dealing with yet another difficult time, not only in our nation’s history, but the entire world. A time of great change and adaptation.

Over the years, we have explored many facets of systemic therapy with you, the members—hypnosis, depression, forgiveness, power, multicultural families, LGBTQ+ families, trauma, ethics, violence, mindfulness—the list goes on and on.

We want to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to the members who have taken this journey with us through the years. The authors, the readers, those who gave of their time and efforts to help pull ideas and content together—it has been quite a ride!

Due to our desire to follow practices friendly to the environment and cost increases in postage and paper over time, FTM will now be an online-only publication. AAMFT members joined us online at the start of the pandemic for education, training, and networking, as we all worked to become nimble. Following the footsteps of leaders in the association marketplace, like the American Society of Association Executives, we are now also stepping forward to support environmental initiatives and saving member dollars for more innovative and beneficial programming.

Please join us at ftm.aamft.org, the new home of Family Therapy Magazine. We hope you will enjoy the new format that is reader friendly from any device or computer, contains shareable content, searchable content, and has added interactive features like video and links to further resources.

This will be the last printed issue, but we hope to keep seeing you online!
